Trials - carried out by the UK Environment Agency and various Water Companies in the south east of England have concluded that on average there was an 8.5% drop in water usage after Retrofitting Variable Flush Mechanisms. Some users achieved a reduction of 64% in flushing volumes (which represents over a 20% saving in annual water costs). Two such trials have been carried out and results of water savings were similar in both trials.

Siphonic toilets - have been around since first introduced by Thomas Crapper in 1861 . The recent changes in the Bylaws allowed different types of flushing mechanisms to be used. The debate is still raging as to the long term reliability of these newer types of flushing valves. There is no such uncertainty about the siphonic type toilets which have been tried and tested over almost a century and a half. The one feature the siphonic toilet was missing was a reliable method of interrupting the flush to allow the user full control over how much water was wasted. Mecon have now provided the missing component. So why throw out a tried and tested flushing method for ones with so many question marks hanging over them? Do you want higher plumbing bills?
